RBSK (Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram)

District Early Intervention Centres (DEIC), run under the national RBSK programme (Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram), offer free developmental screening for children from birth to 18. They're often the fastest no-cost way to get an initial professional opinion.

The tradeoff against a private assessment is usually time — government centres can have longer waitlists — but the screening itself, and any referral that follows it, carries the same weight for school and scheme purposes as a private one.

If cost is the main barrier to starting, this is the place to start, not a private clinic.
