In short

Typical accommodations

Boards with provisions
CBSE, ICSE, and state boards
Biggest risk
Requesting too close to exams — apply at the start of the academic year

A learning disability diagnosis changes what a fair exam looks like for your child, and Indian school boards have formal provision for that — it isn't a special favour a school grants case by case. CBSE, ICSE, and state boards including Goa's own all have documented accommodation schemes for certified students.

Common accommodations include extra time, a scribe or reader, permitted use of a calculator where relevant, and in some cases exemption from a third language requirement. What's actually available depends on the specific board and the disability recorded on the certificate, so it's worth checking your child's board's current circular directly rather than assuming one size fits all.

The one failure point that comes up again and again: timing. Boards set firm cut-off dates for accommodation requests ahead of exam registration, and a request filed close to the exam itself is commonly refused on that basis alone, whatever the merits. Raise it in writing with the school at the start of the academic year, not the term before exams.
